Customer story

Dr. Gregory Fryer has spent more than two decades in functional medicine. Through Medical Direct Care he builds tailored wellness programmes, consultations and ongoing health coaching around preventative, personalized care rather than one-off appointments.
The in-person side of the practice worked. The online side did not. Most people simply did not know what he offered, and there was little digital presence to tell them.
Webinars were the obvious format, because the whole model is educational rather than transactional. What was missing was a funnel around them. Over five months Dr. Fryer built one – optimizing his live sessions first, then automating the version that worked – and lifted registrations 137%, show-up rate 387% and engagement 3.6×.

A practice nobody could find
Dr. Fryer was new to webinars, and the first attempts showed it. The content was strong – the distribution, the reminders and the follow-up around it were not. Three problems compounded each other.
- Low attendance
- Events regularly drew a fraction of the people who registered. The first live session had 90 registrants and five attendees – a 5.6% attendance rate, which made every hour spent presenting an expensive one.
- No consistent lead flow
- Without a reliable stream of committed, high-ticket enquiries there was nothing to scale. Good months and empty months looked the same from the inside.
- Limited digital presence
- Visibility among the right patients was thin. People who would have valued the programmes were never seeing them in the first place.
The underlying issue was that nothing connected. A registration did not lead anywhere, an attendee was not followed up, and a session that went well could not be run again without doing it live all over again.
The funnel he built
Rather than treat webinars as events, Dr. Fryer built an end-to-end marketing system around a single educational session, using EasyWebinar for the page, the scheduling, the reminders and eventually the automation.
- Conversion-optimized landing pages
- Registration pages built in the EasyWebinar page builder, written for a patient deciding whether to spend an hour learning – not for a buyer being sold to.
- Pre- and post-webinar automation
- Reminder sequences before the session and nurture sequences after it, moving registrants toward a booked consultation without manual chasing.
- Live sessions optimized first
- Instead of jumping straight to automation, the live format was refined – presentation flow, email reminders and engagement tactics tested until the numbers moved.
- An automated evergreen webinar
- Once the live version performed, it was recorded and made available on an ongoing schedule, so reach no longer depended on him being at a desk.
- Three distribution routes
- Social sharing links, embeddable widgets on the practice website, and targeted ads – so the same session could be promoted everywhere it made sense.
- Education over pitch
- The sessions establish authority and build trust first. The high-ticket programme sale follows from that rather than interrupting it.
From empty rooms to a running funnel
The order matters. Attendance was fixed while the sessions were still live, which is the cheapest place to fix it. Only then was the session automated – so automation scaled something that already worked rather than multiplying a leak.
That sequence is why the evergreen numbers held up. Registrants rose 2.4× after the switch, without a single additional live session being hosted.
A closer look at the numbers
The clearest picture comes from the live sessions, first attempt against the optimized version:
| Metric | First live webinar | Latest live webinar | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Registrants | 90 | 96 | +7% |
| Attendees | 5 | 26 | +420% |
| Attendance rate | 5.56% | 27.08% | +387% |
Registrations barely moved. Attendance is what changed – the same size audience, five times as many people in the room.
With the live format proven, automation did the scaling. Across the wider funnel:
What actually moved the needle
- Optimizing before automating
- The single most important decision. Automating the first version would have locked in a 5.6% attendance rate and scaled the cost of it. Fixing the live session first meant the evergreen version started from 27.1%.
- Reminders that actually arrive
- Most of the attendance gain came from the sequence around the session rather than the session itself. Registrants who are reminded properly turn up.
- Teaching rather than pitching
- A functional-medicine audience is researching, not shopping. Educational sessions built the credibility that made a high-ticket programme a reasonable next step.
- Evergreen removed the ceiling
- Live sessions capped reach at whatever Dr. Fryer could personally host. Automation lifted registrants 2.4x and gave the time back to patient care.
- Promotion in three places at once
- Shareable links, site widgets and paid traffic each fed the same session, so improvements to the webinar paid off across every channel.
- Analytics closed the loop
- Real-time reporting showed where attention was being lost, which is what turned each round of changes into a measured improvement rather than a guess.
The features behind the growth
- Automated evergreen webinars, delivering continuous lead flow without hosting live sessions
- The EasyWebinar page builder, for conversion-optimized registration pages
- Automated reminder and follow-up emails, which is where most of the attendance gain came from
- Real-time analytics to identify performance gaps and refine the message between sessions
- Flexible scheduling and replay options, widening access for people who could not make the live time
- Shareable links and embeddable widgets, promoting the same session across site, social and ads
In his words
“Our old platform was working for us, but they changed who could have access, and it became more of a hassle to get into the program and use it. EasyWebinar was actually easier to get into – it's in the name, right?”
The bottom line
Dr. Fryer did not change what he teaches. He changed everything around it – an optimized registration page, reminders that land, a refined live format and then an evergreen version of the winner – and turned an inconsistent set of events into a system that runs on its own.
What began as low attendance and unpredictable results is now a funnel that generates registrations, nurtures leads and books consultations around the clock, with minimal manual oversight.
Turn your practice into a patient funnel
Educational webinars build the trust that high-ticket care depends on. Optimize the session once, automate it, and let reminders and follow-up do the rest.
