How to Upgrade Your Webinar Skills & Equipment
At EasyWebinar, we make it as “easy” as possible for you to get started running webinars. Even if you’re not experienced or don’t consider yourself a tech wizard, we pride ourselves on keeping things as simple as possible. That’s why thousands of people love our platform!
But as you evolve in your entrepreneurial and webinar journey, we always want to provide you ways to upgrade your skills. From creating more effective slides, delivering your content effectively, and nailing your pitch on a sales webinar.
Here’s the thing, evolving your skills and becoming a webinar guru won’t happen overnight. When I got started, I was awful at webinars. I stumbled on my words, overshared, and felt very uncomfortable pitching.
But I kept going, I persevered and didn’t give up as I knew I had an offer that could help people. Despite being “bad” at webinars in the beginning, the results were pretty astounding. I was able to generate $250,000 in revenue in 12 months, start EasyWebinar and led me to being here writing this blog for you today.
So wherever you are at in your journey, honor your growth and know that if I can improve, you can too.
Over the past decade, I’ve found that getting better with webinars is about consistently upgrading your skills and using the right equipment. While personal skill will help you deliver, the proper equipment will help elevate your brand and give you the professional credit you deserve. In this post, I’ll show you exactly how to do both.
How to Become a More Effective Webinar Presenter
Let me ask, are you investing in yourself? Are you regularly trying to evolve and grow as a person, not just your business?
In my own experience, I’ve seen that personal and business growth go hand in hand. When I’m not growing, my business seems to stall. On the other hand, when I’m investing in myself, going to masterminds and learning new marketing tricks, my business tends to thrive.
I don’t think this is confidence either. After working side by side with 6 and 7-figure entrepreneurs, I know this a common trait of highly successful people. So if you want to start upgrading your business, start by upgrading yourself as well.
Here are some of the best ways to invest in yourself and your business to become more effective with webinars.
Public Speaking Coaching
Did you know that Warren Buffett, the billionaire investor, wouldn’t be the Warren Buffet that we know today without public speaking? That’s right, Warren Buffett once said, “My public speaking course was arguably the best investment I made in my life.”
As you can imagine, you might benefit from a public speaking coach or course as well. I mean, you are speaking in front of attendees after all. Plus, the larger your audience grows, the more people will attend your events!
If you don’t have a ton of confidence in yourself and pitching your product or service, your business will suffer. Without being able to speak confidently, you will never get the type of conversions and revenue that you want.
Market Research
The second way to invest in your webinar skills is to do plenty of market research.
Here’s the thing, most entrepreneurs put together a webinar based on what they think users want. This can work but it’s not a very scalable model either. Sometimes, this can end up in a webinar that took you hours to create only to make a few (or no) sales.
Instead, you want to adequately spend time getting to know your audience. Start asking yourself, what do people really want to know?
Here are some ways you can start doing market research right now:
- Run AMA no-pitch webinars
- Send a short survey your email list
- Poll your followers using Instagram stories
Or, you can also hire someone or an outside consultant to do some extra research for you. That way, you can stay in your zone of genius and learn from the results they gather to create an effective webinar.
If you aren’t able to outsource this type of thing yet, start with the audience you already have. Regardless of list or follower size, you can begin to learn a ton from the people already in your ecosystem.
Remember, if you don’t spend time researching what they want, you are missing out big time!
Books
As I mentioned before, becoming better at webinars is more than just investing in your business. You need to keep upgrading your mind so that you show up better for your webinars and your business. One of the best ways to do this reading books about selling, psychology, and persuasion.
The more you understand buying behavior and how to keep people’s attention on webinars, the more likely you are to grow your business.
Here are some of my favorite books to help you in life and business:
Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion by Dr. Robert Cialdini
This book is the mecca of sales and marketing. It will help you understand why people say “yes” and how to apply these strategies directly into your business.
How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie.
Remember when I talked about Warren Buffet taking that public speaking course and changing his life forever? Well, the instructor of that course was Dale Carnegie. This book will teach you how to get people to like you, how to change people, and so much more!
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey.
This best-seller will not only help you in business but live a meaningful life as well. If you need some motivation in your life, this is the book for you. It will teach you how to create powerful habits and upgrade all areas of your life.
Webinar Marketing Training
I know, I had to say it right? There are a lot of moving parts with webinars and it takes some time to master each one.
This is why you need to keep learning about the power of webinars and learning how to use them in all areas of your business. But don’t worry, EasyWebinar has you covered.
We have several ways to help you keep learning more about webinars and the nearly unlimited potential of them:

The Webinar Equipment You Need to Scale
Now that you have a better understanding of a few ways to upgrade your personal skills, let’s dive into equipment that can help as well. While you want to keep evolving your personal skills, having the right equipment will help elevate your brand exponentially.
In today’s online world, buyers are smarter and more sophisticated than ever before. Gone are the days when you could slap together a presentation and send them a PayPal link to a checkout page. No, the wild west of the internet is long gone so you need to make sure that you are adapting.
Remember, you only get one first impression with users. If your brand seems off to people, they are much more likely to become a paying customer. You want to focus on creating a strong brand image so you can attract the right people and start to build a movement.

Here is a list of tools and equipment to upgrade without breaking the bank.
Webinar Microphone
I would argue the most important equipment upgrade you need is a webinar microphone. Since most webinars don’t have your face in the presentation, all the attendees have is your voice.
But if you are using a stock microphone from your laptop or desktop, the quality simply won’t be as good. Instead, you want to invest in a microphone so that attendees will hear you loud and clear. Otherwise, if their sound quality is lacking they might jump off quickly or leave before they hear your pitch.
Here is a list of the top webinar microphone that we suggest:
- Best Budget Webinar Microphone: PIY Painitng Cardioid Condenser Microphone Set. For a small price, you can have a great microphone set that provides expert sound for webinars and podcasting. This is one of the highest reviewed on Amazon and is extremely easy to set up!
- Best Overall Webinar Microphone: MAONO AU-A04H Microphone and Headphone Set. This studio headphone set by MAONO has everything you need in one package. You get the microphone, table mounting clamp, scissor arm, pop filter, foam mic windscreen, wired headphones, and more.
Webinar Software
Remember when I said it’s not the “Wild west” on the internet anymore? Well, that is especially true when running webinars. You need a professional software to create the best experience for your users.
Obviously, our recommendation is getting signed up with EasyWebinar. I am confident that we created the best all-in-one webinar marketing tool to help you grow your business. Remember, with EasyWebinar you can run both live and automated webinars even if you’re just starting out.
We also have several plans to make it affordable for every level of entrepreneur. Plus, we integrate with tons of email marketing software (like ConvertKit, Active Campaign, and more) so you can easily sync up and communicate with your list.

Webcam
The third way to upgrade your webinar presentation is upgrading your webcam instead of using the built-in video of your laptop or desktop. While a lot of entrepreneurs might not feel comfortable getting on camera, I promise it can help your business. Remember people buy from people they know, like, and trust.
Since most attendees have been to webinars, they are used to only seeing slides. So if you get on camera, even for a few minutes before the presentation or afterward for Q&A, this can really help. It makes it easier for attendees to connect with you which will likely result in more sales and higher conversions.
Plus, you can also do live webinars without any slides. I did this in 2012 when I ran “No pitch” webinars and simply provided value. I went live every week with my audience and helped them on a specific topic.
Finally, a webcam can also help you if you do a lot of live streams on YouTube or Facebook as well. We suggest these webcams:
- Best Beginner Webcam: Angetube PC 1080 Webcam. This is a great webcam for beginners and provides a full HD experience for only $50!
- Best Overall Webcam: PAPALOOK PA452 Webcam. This is a slightly higher end webcam that is great for webinars, YouTube, and more. It’s still under $100 and compatible with Mac or Windows.
Also, make sure to check out Ecamm Live if you’re a mac user. This is an all-in-one live-streaming production for Mac and provides incredible video streaming.
Background
The final way to upgrade your webinar equipment is investing in a proper background. This is especially important if you’re doing live webinars or AMA (ask me anything) ones as well.
For backgrounds, I suggest going with the “Less is more” theme. The more clutter you have in your background, the more likely you are to distract your audience. When distracted, they won’t pay as much attention to you and your content, which will likely lead to fewer sales.
Instead, go with an empty wall, a few small decorations, and no bright colors. Also, you can always buy wallpaper backdrops like this one.
Remember, less is more for your background!
Final Thoughts
As you can tell, there are a ton of ways to invest both in yourself and your business to become a webinar expert. Investing in your webinar skills will have measurable results on how webinars work for your business.
If you’re reading this and feeling overwhelmed, just remember that nothing great happens overnight. Instead of hoping for quantum shifts in your brand and webinar abilities, look for small, steady progress over time. Besides, there is no race to the finish line (even if it feels like it as an entrepreneur).
